For curly hair, the new word is strobing. Strobing is a technique borrowed from the makeup trend by the same name. It uses light to create the appearance of “dancing color” as your hair moves, just like strobe lights move across a dance floor. Rather than straightening hair before coloring, now more colorists will use hair in its natural state and work with your curls to create this effect.

Deep, vibrant colors will definitely be in vogue. For dark hair, highlights will pop with deep shades of blue and green, while reds and oranges will draw your eye for lighter hair. Vibrant highlights can be everywhere or just as a single “peek-a-boo” shade to add a little fun. You can also try different shades that graduate from the top of your hair to the ends, creating a geode or tie-dye look.
